KOF is pleased to welcome Professor Hans Gersbach as a new member of its Directorate. Gersbach and Professor Jan-Egbert Sturm form the new top management of KOF.
To meet the increasing economic challenges in Switzerland and the world, KOF wants to position itself more broadly. To this end, the KOF's rules of procedure stipulate a dual leadership for the management of the KOF. Since January 2023, Professor Hans Gersbach has joined the previous Director Professor Jan-Egbert Sturm. "I am delighted that with Hans Gersbach, an extremely distinguished economist will strengthen the KOF Directorate. With his broad macroeconomic know-how, he complements and completes the activities at KOF excellently", comments Jan-Egbert Sturm on Gersbach's appointment.

"One focus of my work as Research Director will be to accompany the further methodological development of the KOF. In this way we will strengthen the KOF's analytical capabilities for the Swiss economy," says Gersbach, describing his new tasks. Furthermore, additional economic analysis approaches will be tested in the newly created "KOF Lab" division. All KOF areas are intended to provide decision-makers in Swiss economic policy and the economy with relevant analyses and information.

Gersbach is head of the chair of Macroeconomics: Innovation and Policy at the Department MTEC of ETH Zurich. His research focuses on the analysis of banks and monetary systems, innovation and growth processes, the design of markets and new institutions for the welfare of society. In his research, he uses macroeconomic, strategic and cooperative thinking and their analytical methods to investigate short- and long-term problems and propose solution options.
