KOF Innovation Survey

The KOF has been conducting an innovation survey at three yearly intervals on behalf of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (external pageSECO) since 1990. The purpose of this survey is firstly to assess the levels of innovation capability of the Swiss economy (descriptive analysis), secondly to derive conclusions for economic policy (normative analysis), and thirdly to make a contribution to the scientific explanation of the innovative process on the basis of the data collected (explicative analysis).

Database

The data are collected as part of an extensive poll of the firms in the corporate panel of the KOF, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich.

Questionnaire

The questionnaire for each Innovation Survey consists of a standard section, the key questions of which have been adapted in line with the relevant surveys in EU countries, and a special section which focuses on a topical issue.

Results

The results of the analyses that are conducted on the basis of the Innovation Survey data are published in a final report; the summary of this report is available electronically in German and French. The report is available on external pageSECO's website as well as in the form of a KOF Study. In addition, SECO's website features downloadable tables, which report the evolution over time of selected indicators stemming from the survey, with respect to the following criteria: size class, region, and economic branch.
