Internationalisation of the Swiss Economy Survey 1998

Aims

In view of the growing trend towards globalisation and the limited knowledge – not least because of the dearth of data – of the international activities of the Swiss economy, in autumn 1988 we conducted a panel survey on this subject. This survey produced a broad database which enabled representative statements to be made for the first time about the Swiss economy with regard to the type and intensity of its international presence. In addition, our analysis focused on three questions, namely the determinants of an international presence, the implications for production and employment in Switzerland and the impact on the skills structure of the demand for labour. There are plans to continue the work on this topic given the enormous significance of internationalisation. A second survey is accordingly due to take place in the coming years.
