Forecasts for the Swiss Construction Sector
Although the construction industry only accounts for a good 5% of total value added, investments in construction account for around 10% of Swiss Gross Domestic Product. They are special insofar as the vast majority of intermediate inputs are procured in Switzerland. The import ratio of construction investments is thus comparatively low. Changes in construction investments are thus likely to affect the rest of the economy to a greater extent than fluctuations in other sectors that respond to changes in business activity. Construction investment forecasts are therefore of great interest generally and not only to players in the construction and supply industries.
The KOF produces forecasts of developments in the construction industry in Switzerland in the context of its quarterly forecast of macroeconomic forecasts. It also supplies in-depth forecasts every six months to the Euroconstruct Network with an even greater amount of detail and a broader scope.
Euroconstruct publishes its construction forecast for European countries in a half-yearly report and presents its results to the conferences that are held twice yearly. The report may be purchased from the KOF.
