Heiner Mikosch

Heiner Mikosch is a Postdoc Researcher at KOF. He completed the Gerzensee Ph.D. Program in Economics in January 2009 and received a Ph.D. from the ETH Zurich in December 2011. Since December 2011 he is a member of the Euro Area Business Cycle Network (EABCN).

In January 2012 Heiner joined the KOF Business Cycle Research Division, where he deals with the economic forecasts for the BRIC economies and for Japan. In his research, Heiner relies heavily on microeconometric panel data methods and time series methods. His current research comprises the following topics:

• Firm survey on the effects of exchange rate and oil price shocks on prices and revenue
• Business cycle analysis using business tendency survey micro data - development of Bayesian FAVAR for purely categorical variables
• Analyzing the effect of market competition on price stickiness based on micro data
• Forecasting for emerging market economies with Mixed Data Sampling (MIDAS) regression techniques
• Quarterly system of national expenditure accounts for emerging market economies (programmed in R)

Heiner participates in the semiannual German Joint Economic Forecast ("Gemeinschaftsdiagnose") where he represents the IFO/KOF consortium in Global Outlook Group. Further, Heiner represents the KOF at the semiannual meetings of the Association of European Conjuncture Institutes (AIeCE)
